Can Boredom become beneficial?

A few years ago, I changed my residence. I shifted from the main city to a suburb. Initially, I found the new place very boring as I had no familiar faces around and no visitors like my previous place. During that extremely boring season, to fight boredom I started composing short poems. Soon I had a good collection of my short poems, which I published later in book form. So, I want to tell you that boredom can be beneficial in certain cases.

Everyone gets bored sometimes. What is boredom ? How to avoid it? Are there any advantages of it? How to take advantage of boredom?

Merriam Webster Dictionary says “Boredom” can be defined as the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest.

I think we all have experienced boredom.

Boredom is ubiquitous. It can happen at any place for any reason. It can be different for every person and can also be collective. For example, in a cinema hall different people will feel differently watching the same movie. One person can get very bored while the other may not be bored at all. It may also happen that all the spectators in the hall get equally bored. We can get bored while doing some work and can be bored even doing nothing.

The feeling of boredom is very negative. It can spoil your mood. It can increase negative thoughts in someone. Sometimes some people even do dangerous or criminal acts to overcome boredom.

Excessive and Persistent boredom can also be a sign of some mental illness. In such a case a psychiatrist should be consulted.

In normal cases, a person  is bored, when he is not satisfied with the situation he is in, and he cannot get out of it. Thus adjustment problems can also lead to boredom. You are not able to adjust with the environment where you are living or working.

Students get more bored in the period of a particular subject because they do not understand it.

Boredom is marked by an empty feeling, as well as a sense of frustration with that emptiness. In certain cases, it indicates the need to take action to change one’s situation.

Boredom is a universally dreaded feeling. Boredom is also the way your brain warns you that things are not going well; we just need to pay attention.

We can fight boredom by changing our activities, pursuing hobbies, finding a different way of doing or making something. It is possible while trying to do away with boredom you discover a new way of looking at a problem and solve it.

If handled properly the boredom can become an opportunity to better your life.?
